HISTORY
Being a parish
school, the history of St Benedict’s is closely tied with that of its
Church. The school was opened on 2 February 1953 with about 50 children
in attendance.
Sr Mary Angela from the Sisters of Our Lady of the
Missions Order was the first Principal, a position which she held until
1961. In 1974 the first lay Principal, Mr Leo Schaper was appointed.
Mr Darryl Winsor was appointed in 2001 and made a great contribution to
the development of the school until March 2007, when we warmly welcomed
our current Principal, Rev. Mark Powell.
St Benedict’s
has grown to an enrolment of approximately 240 children from
Kindergarten to Yr 6. The school boasts excellent facilities which
allow the talented and dedicated staff to assist the children to develop
their full potential.
